- The Leading Indicator of Industry Profitability fell to 108.0 in December, the first drop in the overall index since January, as the fall in commodity and equity prices and a jump in the prime interest rate offset the brighter labour market.
- While the oil extraction index continued to fall on weak prices, the profit outlook for the manufacturing, retail, and service sectors has remained strong. Overall, 34 of the 49 industries tracked by the index increased in December.
