Chiemeka Umunnakwe is a dedicated pharmacist originally from Nigeria who moved to Canada several years ago in pursuit of new opportunities. He holds a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Benin and brings over a decade of international experience in pharmacy. As an alumnus of the Windmill Microlending program, Chiemeka received essential financial support to navigate the Canadian licensure process—a journey he recalls as challenging and one that required resilience, a quality he believes is vital for immigrants. Reflecting on his experience, he shares, “My journey would not have been complete without the pivotal role that Windmill Microlending played in helping finance not only my Pharmacy Board exams but also the unpaid internship period that followed.” Now based in Pembroke, Ontario, Chiemeka has accumulated nearly three years of Canadian experience as a pharmacist at Shoppers Drug Mart. Through his professional journey and ongoing advocacy, he hopes to inspire other immigrants on their own re-licensing paths in Canada.
