Canada’s Computer and Electronic Products Industry: Industrial Profile Winter 2016

Exports—Industry exports grew to $17.3 billion in 2015, their highest level since 2008. Improving U.S. demand and a weaker Canadian dollar should continue to support export growth going forward.

Revenues—Industry revenues rose for a second straight year in 2015 following continuous declines between 2001 and 2013. Higher prices have been a large contributor to the recent pickup in industry revenues.

R&D Spending—Despite its improving performance, the industry continues to reduce R&D spending. Going forward, the industry’s ability to grow will depend on its capacity to boost its R&D.
