Canada’s housing market has essentially stalled as dismal housing affordability discourages homebuyers. Government expectations that Canada can build its way to housing affordability appear destined to largely fail. What is contributing to this failure? A small decline in housing starts is on tap for 2025, with a 1.4 per cent dip in multiple starts slightly outweighing a 1.0 per cent singles increase to produce 241,600 total starts. How long will this decline last and when will housing starts begin to rise?
