- In 2020, Nova Scotia was a member of the Atlantic Bubble that allowed unrestricted interprovincial travel among the four Atlantic provinces. This meant Nova Scotia could welcome tourists from the other Atlantic provinces.
- With limits on both domestic and international travel, Nova Scotians turned to other recreational pursuits in 2020. Unadjusted retail sales in 2020 for sporting goods, hobby, book, and music stores between June and August were up about 12 per cent from a year earlier both provincially and nationally.
- The recovery of Nova Scotia’s tourism industry will take several years. Tourism expenditures are forecast to rebound by 79 per cent in 2021 but will not reach pre-pandemic levels until 2023.
- Resident sentiment about out-of-province visitors will likely remain cool even after a vaccine is widely distributed among Canadians.
