Health and Safety: Views From the Top is a series of executive action briefings produced by Signal49 Research’s Senior Executive Health and Safety Leadership Charter (HSLC), whose objective is to promote health and safety in Canadian organizations and build senior leadership engagement. This issue focuses on the health and safety practices at Nova Scotia Power Inc. Rob Bennett, President and CEO, discusses the utility’s health and safety programs. The programs revolve around four guiding principles: involvement, mutual trust and respect, communication, and recognition for those who take the initiative and help to make the overall working environment as safe as possible. Although Bennett credits company-wide employee involvement as the main driver behind the success of the utility’s health and safety programs, he maintains that their trust will always remain a work in progress.
