Consumer Confidence Inches Higher as Year Closes

Unlike in previous months, December’s results were largely unchanged from a year earlier, suggesting a modest firming in sentiment as the year came to a close. Easing uncertainty, stable inflation, neutral interest rates, an encouraging federal budget, and improving labour market conditions have all helped bolster consumer confidence as of late.
