This Centre for Business Innovation (CBI) report examines innovation measurement metrics and practices in the manufacturing sectors. Its findings are based on a literature search, the 2012 Centre for Business Innovation Survey on Innovation Metrics and Management in Canadian firms, and the information gathered through in-depth telephone interviews with executives from the manufacturing sectors. The report is one of a series providing sector-specific analyses of measurement activities in representative companies of all ages and sizes within priority sectors of the Canadian economy. It studies in detail the innovation measurement practices of manufacturing companies as they pursue their innovation goals and address challenges. It also examines how satisfied the companies are with their measurement efforts. The report profiles best practices undertaken by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as by large companies in the manufacturing sectors.
