The monthly Metropolitan housing starts publication provides the recent trends in housing starts for 29 metropolitan areas and expectations for starts over both the short and long term.

Document Highlights

There are seven CMAs with both positive short- and long-term expectations, two more than last month.

Cities in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area have negative expectations for the short term, but positive expectations for the long term.

The CMAs with the biggest year-over-year declines in housing starts in June were Kingston, Hamilton, Victoria, Trois-Rivières, and Sherbrooke.

Saint John had the biggest year-over-year increase in housing starts last month.
