- At the national level, the growth in overnight visits is expected to reach 1.9 per cent this year and improve to an even stronger 2.7 per cent in 2015.
- On the heels of a 6.9 per cent increase this year, visits from overseas market are expected to continue to advance at an average pace of 3.5 to 4.5 per cent per year.
- While overnight visits from the U.S. are expected to increase 3.5 per cent in 2015 and continue to advance over the forecast horizon, they will continue to remain well below the levels we were seeing a decade ago.
- This year, overnight travel to Prince Edward Island got a solid boost from the hosting of more than 150 events celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Charlottetown Conference and from business activity associated with last year’s opening of the new Prince Edward Island Convention Centre.
- Tourism activity in Ontario is expected to get a strong boost in 2015, aided by improving economic conditions within the province, as well as the hosting of major events, such as the Pan American Games.
- Over the medium term, tourism activity in Saskatchewan is projected to advance sharply, thanks to the addition of a new stadium at Regina’s Evraz Place, the construction of new hotels, and the opening of the Remai Art Gallery.
