- Overnight visits to and within Canada are expected to increase by 2.6 per cent this year, thanks largely to lower gas prices and a weaker Canadian dollar.
- After growing by 9.3 per cent in 2014, overseas arrivals are projected to continue to increase at a more modest 5.3 per cent pace this year.
- The outlook for overnight travel from the U.S. over the medium term is considerably more favourable than last year’s 1.1 per cent, thanks to the strengthening U.S. economy and a more favourable exchange rate.
- New Brunswick should experience slightly higher growth in its domestic travel markets this year, due to improving consumer confidence, positive signs in the provincial labour market, and a planned increase in direct air capacity.
- Quebec is one of the provinces expected to benefit the most from the strengthening U.S. economy, with overnight visits from the U.S. projected to increase 3.9 per cent in 2015.
- Manitoba’s economy is expected to make solid progress this year; over the longer term, the aviation fuel tax rebate should encourage airlines to boost direct air capacity between Manitoba and more overseas destinations.
- Overnight visits to Yukon are projected to increase 3.6 per cent in 2015, with the strongest growth expected from overseas markets.
