This summary document provides an overview of Western Canada––Productivity, Competitiveness, and Potential, which explores the challenges the Western provinces will face as they try to improve and sustain their standards of living over the long term. Key Findings reviews the three components of the main report. First, the competitiveness of each of the four Western provinces is benchmarked against a carefully selected set of comparator regions—one set per province. The second component provides estimates of potential output for each of the Western provinces and long-term outlooks of potential output. Based on the benchmarking and potential output analyses, the third component of the report highlights some of the key challenges facing each Western province and proposes policy actions to help overcome them.
