Western Canada Productivity, Competitiveness, and Potential

Western Canada: Productivity, Competitiveness, and Potential—Detailed Findings explores the challenges the Western provinces will face as they try to improve and sustain their standards of living over the long term. The report is divided into four sections—one for each Western province—and each section is divided into three chapters. The first chapter in each section provides the results of benchmarking the competitiveness of the Western province against a carefully selected set of comparator regions. The second chapter presents estimates of historical potential output for the Western province, which are then used to produce long-term outlooks of potential output and alternative forecast scenarios. Based on the benchmarking and potential output analyses, the third chapter of each section outlines some of the key challenges facing the Western province and proposes policy actions to help overcome them.
