About
Dr. Alan Chaffe is the Associate Director of Economic Research at Signal49 Research, formerly the Conference Board of Canada. With nearly 20 years of experience as an economist, he leads custom research projects for public- and private-sector clients, specializing in economic impact analysis, labour market research, program evaluation, and economic forecasting. At Signal49 Research, Dr. Chaffe has led and contributed to studies across a wide range of industries and policy areas, including Indigenous economic development, tourism, energy, pensions and investment funds, shipbuilding, workforce development, marketing, and city competitiveness. His work has supported organizations such as the Assembly of First Nations, the Government of Nunavut, the City of Toronto, Destination Canada, Tourism HR Canada, the First Peoples’ Cultural Council, Ontario Power Generation, SaskPower, the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan, CBRE Canada, Irving Shipbuilding, CEWIL Canada, the Investment Funds Institute of Canada, and the Canadian Marketing Association.
Prior to joining The Conference Board of Canada, Dr. Chaffe was an instructor and teaching professor at the University of Victoria, where he taught undergraduate and graduate courses in economics, business, and educational leadership. He also worked as a Senior Economist at Statistics Canada and with the British Columbia Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation, gaining extensive experience in economic analysis, public policy, and applied research. Drawing on his experience across academia, government, and consulting, Dr. Chaffe brings a practical and evidence-based approach to helping organizations navigate complex economic and policy challenges.
