About

Dr. Alan Chaffe is an Associate Director for the Economic Research team at Signal49 Research. He produces customized economic research and reports for a variety of public and private sector clients. During his time at the Signal49 Research, Alan has managed and worked on several labour market and economic impact research studies, including projects for Tourism HR Canada, Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network, the Canadian Agricultural Human Resource Council, the Canadian Produce Marketing Association, the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan, OPTrust, and University Pension Plan, and the Investment Funds Institute of Canada, as well as a current project with the Government of Nunavut.

Alan has over 16 years of experience working as an economist. Prior to joining the Board, Alan worked as an instructor and teaching professor at the University of Victoria, where he taught a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses for the Department of Economics and the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business.

Alan has also worked as a senior economist for Statistics Canada and the B.C. Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation (SDSI). His research with these organizations focused on labour markets, consumer prices, price indexation, economic impact studies, program evaluations, and economic forecasting and analysis of the short- and long-term trends in Canada’s domestic environment. Alan has published numerous research papers and chapters in books, and he has presented his research at various conferences, including the Socio-Economic Conference, the United Nations Ottawa Group on Price Indexes, the World Congress on National Accounts and Economic Performance Measures for Nations, and the BC Labour Market Conference.
