About

Bethany is a Lead Research Associate in the Indigenous and Northern Communities team at Signal49 Research. In this role, Bethany conducts research with Indigenous groups that aims to advance reconciliation.

Past Work Experience

Before coming to Signal49 Research, Bethany spent over 6 years as a an environmental planning consultant where she worked with Indigenous communities on social impact assessments as well as community land use plans in Northern Ontario. Bethany also has 11 years of experience as an academic, where she conducted research with Indigenous groups, associations, and committees on their experiences with uranium mining in Northern Saskatchewan as well as environmental and social governance of bauxite mining and the establishment of protected areas and conservation programs in Suriname. Bethany has published multiple articles in top academic journals, and taught in Geography and Environmental Studies programs at the University of Ottawa, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, and Duke University.
