Chris Viel is the Interim Senior Manager of Health at Signal49 Research, where he provides strategic leadership across a portfolio of applied health research and evaluation projects. With an interdisciplinary background in epidemiology, biology, and gerontology, Chris brings a broad perspective to understanding complex health system challenges. His work spans health policy, health economics and outcomes research, workforce issues, cancer care, healthy aging, workplace mental health, and Indigenous health, with a focus on translating evidence into practical insights for decision-makers.
Chris has worked across academic, non-profit, and applied research settings, giving him experience in both conducting rigorous research and ensuring findings are relevant and actionable in real-world environments. He completed a Master of Health Sciences in Epidemiology at Lakehead University, where his multi-province research on supervisor workplace mental health training was supported by the Frederick Banting and Charles Best Canada Graduate Scholarship. Throughout his career, Chris has been committed to helping organizations understand emerging health system challenges, evaluate their impacts, and identify opportunities for meaningful policy and practice change.
