About
Dr. Stan Hetalo is a Senior Economist on the Economic Research team at Signal49 Research, specializing in applied economic research and causal inference. His work at Signal49 spans a wide range of projects, including economic impact assessment modelling for organizations such as the Canadian Beverage Association, Canadian Produce Marketing Association, and the Wilder Institute. He has also contributed to economic forecasts for the Regional Municipality of York, Peel Region, the province of Alberta, and the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC), and led the development of the Tourism Productivity Drivers Index for Destination Canada.
Prior to joining Signal49 Research, Dr. Hetalo completed his PhD at Simon Fraser University, where he also served as a Research Assistant on multiple economic research projects. His academic work involved designing economic models and applying evidence-based analytical methods across environmental, labour, health, and transportation topics. He contributed to several working papers in economics, and his research was recognized with a runner-up award for the Best Paper Prize at the Canadian Economics Association conference in 2023. He is also a co-author of a study published in the International Journal of Global Energy Issues in 2021.
