About

Dr. Stan Hetalo is a Senior Economist in the Economic Research team at Signal49 Research, specializing in applied economic research and causal inference. Stan’s experience at Signal49 includes working on numerous research projects, such as the Economic Impact Assessment modelling for the Canadian Beverage Association, Canadian Produce Marketing Association, and Wilder Institute, economic forecasts for the Regional Municipalities of York, Peel Region, the province of Alberta, and the Business Development Bank of Canada, as well as shaping the development of the Tourism Productivity Drivers Index for the Destination Canada.

Prior to joining Signal49, Stan obtained his Ph.D. and was a Research Assistant for multiple economic projects at Simon Fraser University (SFU), where he designed economic models and implemented evidence-based analysis. At SFU, Stan led research on environmental, labour, health, and transportation topics, contributing to three working papers in economics. One of his research papers was recognized with the runner-up award in the Best Paper Prize category at the Canadian Economics Association conference in 2023. Stan is also a co-author of the economic study published in the International Journal of Global Energy issues in 2021.
