About

Dr. Tony Bonen, in his role as the Executive Director of Economic Research, guides the Signal49’s custom economic analyses, forecasts, and related research. Tony brings significant experience managing research and providing guidance on a wide range of economic issues and topics, including labour market dynamics, climate change economics, housing, macroeconomic forecasting, and economic impact analyses.

Prior to joining Signal49, Tony served as the Executive Director at the Labour Market Information Council (LMIC). While in the risk department at the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), Tony led the development of housing price and macroeconomic forecasts used in stress testing. While working at the Schwartz Center for Economic Policy Analysis in New York, Tony’s research focused on the economic impacts of climate change. In particular, his research focused on comparative assessments of major macroeconomic forecast models used to generate “social cost of carbon” estimates and the application of nonlinear macroeconomic forecasts assessing the optimal climate change policy response (e.g., adaptation versus mitigation efforts).
