Canada’s Engineering and Applied Science Technicians and Technologists: Assessing Their Economic Contribution

The engineering and applied science technicians and technologists occupational group includes an array of different occupations found across many segments of the Canadian economy. In this study, Signal49 Research has developed a methodology using wage data at the occupational and industrial levels to obtain an approximation of the amount of GDP (or value-added) to which engineering and applied science technicians and technologists contribute in each industry; it is estimated that the group contributed $54.7 billion to the economy in 2011—3.3 per cent of Canadian GDP.
