According to information provided by the 2012 Compensation Planning Outlook’s 381 survey respondents, the average pay increase for non-unionized employees is projected to be 3.1 per cent in 2012—1.1 percentage points above the 2.0 per cent total inflation rate forecast for the year ahead. The actual overall increase for 2011 was 3.0 per cent, slightly higher than what was projected by compensation planners in last year’s survey (2.8 per cent). Short-term incentive pay plans remain prevalent in organizations, and target payouts in 2012 are expected to be similar to what was planned for 2011. Other results from the survey included in the report address incentive plans, turnover rates, rewards strategies and priorities, recruitment and retention, and collective bargaining issues.
