Home Energy Ratings and Ontario’s Climate Change Action Plan

As part of Ontario’s 2016–2020 Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP), the Home Energy Rating and Disclosure (HER&D) program will require all homes listed for sale to receive an energy audit/rating before being listed. The rating is intended to help homebuyers compare the energy performance of homes before they make a purchase decision. This briefing evaluates the HER&D program in terms of its ability to reduce emissions. The cost per tonne of CO₂ equivalent emissions that might be abated is compared to the commercial building and transportation elements of CCAP.
