As part of Ontario’s 2016–2020 Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP), the Home Energy Rating and Disclosure (HER&D) program will require all homes listed for sale to receive an energy audit/rating before being listed. The rating is intended to help homebuyers compare the energy performance of homes before they make a purchase decision. This briefing evaluates the HER&D program in terms of its ability to reduce emissions. The cost per tonne of CO2 equivalent emissions that might be abated is compared to the commercial building and transportation elements of CCAP.
