Obesity is one of the fastest-growing public health issues facing the world today. Obesity is also one of the most important risk factors for many chronic illnesses and conditions, including heart disease, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes, which can contribute to lower labour productivity and increases in work absences. Employers have a role to play to support their employees on this very sensitive matter.

Nutrition in the Workplace is based on a Signal49 Research survey conducted between November 15 and December 10, 2012. The 60 participating organizations provide a wide range of workplace wellness initiatives, including those aimed at reducing obesity. The programs in place at TELUS, WorkSafeBC, Loblaw, Eli Lilly Canada, Canadian Pacific, City of Brandon, and Total E&P Canada are looked at in greater detail.
