Connectedness is transforming communications and improving the performance of business and our social, education, and health systems. Canada ranks second on the Connectedness Index, and this briefing explores how we can maintain and better our performance.
Document Highlights
This briefing is the third in an annual series that quantifies Canada’s progress in connectedness compared to nine other OECD economies—the other G7 countries, plus Australia, Finland, and Sweden, which have similar economies to Canada’s. How are Canadians using connectedness to improve their lives? What opportunities exist for Canada to improve its connectedness, and, ultimately, its economic and social performance? This briefing answers these questions.
In the race for connectedness, Canada is doing well. We finished second on the Connectedness Index, due in part to the success of our performance in two key categories: reach and use. However, there is room for improvement in terms of availability and price.
The briefing focuses on three key areas—broadband, content, and wireless—that cut across all sectors of our economy, including education, health, business, and government. These offer Canada the most opportunity to strengthen its connectedness lead and improve its overall socio-economic performance.
