Leaders in business, government, and non-profit organizations give graduates of management, business, and finance (MBF) programs straight “B”s on readiness to succeed. The “B” grade performance is much better than what many critics of MBF education may have predicted; however improvements are clearly needed.
In this preliminary study, Report Card on Management, Business, and Finance Education Canada: Are Graduates Ready for Business?, Signal49 Research surveyed and interviewed leaders in Canadian organizations in the private, public, and non-profit sectors to elicit their views on whether MBF graduates are meeting employers’ needs and prepared to lead entrepreneurship and innovation. While leaders assign generally good grades to MBF graduates, they are almost unanimous in calling for significant improvements to MBF education. Their perspectives reveal substantial consensus in terms of their expectations, and indicate some of the issues that should find a place on a national agenda for action.
