This report reviews the evidence linking sustainable development to value creation. This evidence is based on the performance of seven prominent funds and indices managed in Canada, the United States and western Europe that have track records of between 1 and 10 years.
The purposes of this report are to:
- profile the performance of a growing number of pension funds, mutual funds and indices that screen companies based on aspects of SD performance;
- describe factors related to SD performance that affect corporate financial performance and putatively share price;
- stimulate discussion between corporations, commercial and investment banks, insurance providers, credit agencies and institutional and retail investors on the value proposition of corporate SD practices; and
- stimulate research to translate corporate SD practices and the associate benefits into parameters appropriate for financial valuation.
