In May 2014, Signal49 Research’s Centre for National Security’s (CNS) conducted a study tour to Boston to learn from those—including responders, government officials, and business representatives—who were intimately involved in the response to the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. Overall, the response to the crisis was deemed successful, and the briefing examines the key factors that played a part in that success. In addition, the briefing also reveals some of the areas that need improvement. As indicated by its “hashtag,” The Response That Was “#BostonStrong” also explores the role of social media and how it was used by emergency management, law enforcement, and health care organizations to aid their response to the mass-casualty incident.
