This bimonthly publication from the Canadian Tourism Research Institute features articles that outline key trends for the travel industry.
Document Highlights
Is the Current Tourism Rebound Enough? — The most current evidence suggests that more business and leisure travellers have been getting back on the road and into the air. But while it appears that most of the industry is currently enjoying a solid surge in travel demand, the financial outlook is not expected to change much. Achieving profitability is expected to take some time as the industry attempts to improve revenues. In this article we explore the current tourism rebound and whether it will be strong enough and long enough to help revive the industry.
Turning the Tide on the International Arrivals Slide — Although the solid upward trend in travel demand suggests that the tourism industry is currently in the midst of a long-overdue recovery, further growth is still necessary. To achieve this growth, internal challenges in Canada’s tourism industry must first be addressed. In June 2004, Signal49 Research and the Canadian Tourism Commission co-hosted a workshop to identify the obstacles that exist within the Canadian tourism industry and to develop strategies to overcome them. In this article we discuss the findings of that workshop.
