  • Slower economic and demographic growth in Atlantic Canada will dampen growth in domestic visits in Halifax, but an improvement in visits from the United States should keep overall demand growth from slowing.
  • Growth in overnight visits to Montréal is expected to slow in 2012. Weak employment growth will limit domestic visits, while deteriorating consumer confidence in the U.S. is expected to weigh on visits from south of the border.
  • Overseas visits to Toronto are forecast to grow by 3.2 per cent, propelled by growth in demand from emerging markets such as India, China, and Brazil.
  • Overnight visits to Vancouver are estimated to have fallen slightly in 2011—not surprising since the city had hosted the Winter Olympics the previous year. In 2012, overnight visits are forecast to regain momentum and rise by 2 per cent, supported by a 2.5 per cent increase in domestic visits and 3.2 per cent gain in overseas visits.
