About

In her role as a Senior Research Associate at Signal49 Research, Dr. Hussain contributes to applied research and evaluation projects across Indigenous healthcare, economic development, education, workforce development, tourism, and social policy. Her work spans qualitative and mixed-methods research, including literature reviews, interview and survey design, community engagement, thematic analysis, and knowledge mobilization. She has led and supported projects for Indigenous organizations, government partners, and national sector associations, with a strong focus on translating research findings into accessible and actionable outputs for communities, decision-makers, and industry partners. Dr. Hussain is OCAP® certified, and her work is grounded in principles of reconciliation, supporting efforts aligned with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action through community-engaged, equity-focused, and strengths-based research practices.

Prior to joining Signal49 Research, Dr. Hussain worked across the education, health, and non-profit sectors as a researcher, educator, and consultant. She brings over 18 years of experience in research, programme evaluation, curriculum development, and equity-focused education initiatives. Her previous roles include work with Queen’s University, York University, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and Ontario employment and youth-serving programmes. Her research and teaching have focused on inclusive education, student well-being and achievement, anti-oppressive practices, and evidence-based policy and programme development.
