About

Pedro Antunes is Chief Economist at Signal49 Research. He provides insight and strategic direction for the organization’s economic products, including reports and indicators on Canada, its regions, and key sectors. Pedro also shares his expertise through testimony before parliamentary and Senate committees, media interviews in English and French, and presentations to industry leaders and decision-makers across Canada. 

Pedro began his career in 1987 with the Canadian forecast team at the Bank of Canada. He joined Signal49 Research in 1992 as part of the provincial forecast team and has since led economic analysis across a range of provinces and sectors. Pedro’s research has explored some of Canada’s most important economic challenges, including demographic change and its impact on labour markets, the fiscal sustainability of health care, productivity, and long-term economic growth. He has also worked on international projects in Tunisia, Morocco, Jordan, and Ukraine, helping decision-makers build forecasting and policy analysis tools.
