On behalf of the Future Skills Centre, Signal49 Research has developed the Automation Vulnerability Index (AVI) to track occupational vulnerability and workforce resiliency. Using the AVI, we can improve our understanding of Canada’s unique skills training needs.
In Assessing Lethbridge’s Vulnerability to Automation, the authors report that Lethbridge has the highest AVI score in the Canadian Prairies and is the seventh most vulnerable region in the country. Compared with the national average, the regional share of workers with a high school diploma or less is noticeably higher (by 20.8 per cent). Similarly, the region’s average economic transition cost is higher than the Canadian average (by 15.8 per cent); however, it is still significantly lower than the provincial average (by 17.2 per cent).
The data briefing also suggests some considerations for aid people to transition into less automation-susceptible occupations.
