On behalf of the Future Skills Centre, Signal49 Research has developed the Automation Vulnerability Index (AVI) to track occupational vulnerability and workforce resiliency. Using the AVI, we can improve our understanding of Canada’s unique skills training needs.
In Assessing Trois-Rivières’ Vulnerability to Automation, the authors report that Trois-Rivières has the highest AVI score of any region in Quebec. Its regional share of workers in high-risk, low-mobility occupations is 9.1 per cent greater than the national level. The share of its labour force in slow-growing occupations and the share aged 55+ are also concerns.
Compared with the national average, Trois-Rivières has significantly lower occupational transition costs (by 18.4 per cent) and a more educated workforce (i.e., 21.1 per cent fewer workers with a high school diploma or less). This will make it easier to help workers participate in retraining and upskilling programs.
