On behalf of the Future Skills Centre, Signal49 Research has developed the Automation Vulnerability Index (AVI) to track occupational vulnerability and workforce resiliency. Using the AVI, we can improve our understanding of Canada’s unique skills training needs.
In Assessing Windsor’s Vulnerability to Automation, the authors report that Windsor has the highest share of workers in high-risk, low-mobility occupations among any city in Canada. Compared with the national level, this share is 32.2 per cent greater. This is one of the key reasons why the region has the fifth-highest AVI score in the country. Windsor also has a fairly concentrated employment mix—59.5 per cent of its workers are employed by the region’s top five sectors.
The data briefing also suggests some policy considerations to aid people to transition into less automation-susceptible occupations.
