US Industrial Production—In spite of the overall health of the U.S. economy, its industrial production continues to underwhelm, hurt by weak-ness in its mining and utilities sectors. This could weigh on demand for Canada’s chemical products.
Natural Gas Prices—A warmer winter and record gas storage have put downward pressure on natural gas prices. This will provide some cost relief to chemical manufacturers that use natural gas as a feedstock.
Canadian Dollar—A weaker Canadian dollar is supporting the price-competitiveness of Canadian chemical products in foreign markets, as more than two-thirds of domestic production is exported.
