- Emerging Markets—Rising exports to emerging markets have been a bright spot for the industry this year. Surprisingly, exports to major paper producers, such as Brazil and Indonesia, have even been increasing.
- Inventories—The industry’s inventory-to-shipments ratio is very low, and this is contributing to healthy gains in prices despite a weak demand environment.
- Canadian Dollar—Many industry products are priced in U.S. dollars; thus the renewed strength of the Canadian dollar is offsetting some of the benefits of price increases.
