The results for the 2009 Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) survey indicate that Canada’s largest companies in both the low-carbon and high-carbon impact sectors have implemented significant initiatives to prepare for successfully operating in a carbon-constrained world. Further, the “best practices” demonstrated by this year’s Climate Disclosure Leaders are further evidence of proactive preparatory actions. However, widespread engagement in a comprehensive manner in preparation for operations in this new business environment is not yet a reality.
The Carbon Disclosure Project Report 2009 Canada 200 documents the results from 97 companies, representing 49 per cent of the 200 companies surveyed. All companies can make use of the disclosures as reference points for the purpose of preparing for successful operations when the carbon market becomes operational in the near future and federal, provincial, or regional regulations come into force and reporting of actual emissions become mandatory.
