While the Canadian economy is expected to rebound next year, Canadian companies will face significant cost pressures from trade liberalization and the need to be competitive in the global marketplace. This situation, together with a slowdown in corporate profit growth and a structural increase in labour force participation, will put moderate downward pressure on pay increases in 2004.
