Show Me the Money: Canadians Value Salary Over Other Total Rewards
This data briefing explores how different employee groups prioritize salary, drawing on findings from our What Matters Most: Employee Preferences on Total Rewards survey. Conducted between January 13 and 29, 2025, the survey captured responses from 2,508 Canadian employees, uncovering perceptions of which total rewards are most sought after, and valued, by employees.
What do Canadian employees value far more than other components of total rewards, such as paid vacations, health care benefits, flexible work schedule, and retirement benefits? Do those with a university education prioritize salary as a part of their total rewards package to a higher degree than those whose highest level of educational attainment is secondary school. And is dissatisfaction with salary associated with potential employee-led departures?
