Energy Futures for Canada

Signal49 Research has recently established an internal Strategic Foresight Initiative, which uses a series of plausible futures—rather than a predicted future—to generate insights for decision-makers on how best to prepare for a range of possibilities. The Initiative’s first project was to examine energy futures for Canada out to 2050. This exercise resulted in four plausible scenarios: Hockey Stick, Green Machine, Superpower, and Made in Canada. While there is no certainty about whether the world will move toward any of these scenarios, some key strategic elements emerged from the examination of all of these scenarios that must be considered regardless of how our world evolves.
