Our empirical analysis has shown that variations in the number of jobs posted online are generally followed by similar variations in employment in the ensuing months. Thus, the index can be used to predict near-term employment trends.

The Help-Wanted Index fell 2.4 points in November. It was the second consecutive decline for the national index. On the positive side, the October and November declines were not enough to wipe out the gain recorded in September.
