Following two consecutive monthly increases, Signal49 Research’s Index of Consumer Confidence fell 2.1 points in January to 101.7 (2014 = 100). A marked shift toward part-time job creation in much of the second half of 2016 continues to weigh on the minds of consumers. Relative to December, more Canadians indicated that their finances had deteriorated in the last six months. And despite a solid increase in employment at the national level, there was also no change in expectations about future financial or employment conditions.
