Navigating Through the Storm: Leaders and the World of Work in 2020

This report is a product of Signal49 Research’s Future of Work project, which aimed to provide government and private sector leaders with insights and tools to help them deal with dramatic changes expected in the workplace. Navigating Through the Storm incorporates results from the literature review, roundtable dialogue, focus group reports, and further research. It analyzes how three powerful mega-trends—globalization, population aging and diversity, and technological innovation—are affecting the nature of work, the ways in which workplaces are transforming as a result of those trends, the role of leaders in addressing workplace change, the skills they require to respond successfully today, and the skills they must seek out as they develop or recruit the next generation of leaders for 2020 and beyond. Fulfilling the project’s goal, the report serves as a comprehensive guide to help organization leaders understand the challenges and navigate successfully within this new environment.
