Overcoming Workplace Stigma: Inclusive Strategies for Supporting People Experiencing Disability
In this research, we examine the results of employer and employee surveys and findings from interviews with employers, DEI and human resource leaders, and workplace mentors and mentees experiencing disability.
Many people experiencing disability hesitate to disclose to their employers. Do they fear their opportunities will be limited? Do concerns about stigma play a role? Many employers lack the knowledge they need for effective disability inclusion. Does this factor in employees’ reluctance to seek support? Do these experiences differ depending on whether the individual’s disability is apparent or non-apparent?
