Signal49 Research has established a Leaders’ Roundtable on Commercialization to develop a strategy to improve commercialization in Canada. The Roundtable hopes to motivate businesses, governments, academics and communities to make bold decisions and plans regarding commercialization. Its mandate is to establish a shared commercialization vision for Canada and an action plan that recognizes the challenges facing various sectors and regions. Long-term outcomes are expected to include an increased return on R&D investments, increased productivity, expanded international trade and more sustainable, global-best Canadian businesses. This first Roundtable report identifies the key challenges in Canadian commerce and calls for a series of six “quick hits” to be undertaken over the next year to generate momentum while longer-term initiatives continue to develop. These “quick hits” are tangible actions that can make the most difference, can be carried out over the next 12 months and have an obvious or willing champion.
