Nova Scotia has been managing the pandemic very well and has one of the highest full vaccination rates in Canada, which has given travellers confidence that their visit to the province will be safe. But, due to the fourth wave, the province has had to delay entering the final stage of its reopening plan until October.
Following a decline of 20.9 per cent last year, total visits to the province are expected to rebound by 15.7 per cent in 2021 and 9.4 per cent in 2022, reaching full recovery by the end of next year.
The Atlantic Bubble has greatly supported the recovery of visits to Nova Scotia this summer, but the mandatory two-week isolation rules for unvaccinated travellers coming from outside Atlantic Canada still discourage some interprovincial travel to the province.
The return of cruise ships to the Port of Halifax and the lobster festival in 2022 will attract tourists back to Halifax, helping the total number of visits to the city recover fully by 2023.
Trips to Nova Scotia for business purposes will still be affected post-pandemic, as an increasing share of businesses will continue hosting conferences and business meetings online as a way to save costs.
