Retaining Canada’s Healthcare Workforce
In this research, we examine migration dynamics over the past several years for people working in seven healthcare roles in Canada: physicians, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and medical radiation therapists. We look at inter-provincial and intra-provincial migration patterns, outmigration to other countries, and growth rates among these professions.
Which healthcare roles are growing, and where are workforce shortages emerging? Which regions are gaining or losing healthcare workers? Where may targeted retention strategies be most needed? What role are internationally trained healthcare professionals playing in addressing workforce pressures?
