Document Highlights
In a unique program that matches a need with a niche, adults with physical disabilities participating in the Community Futures Internet Business Development for Entrepreneurs with Disabilities (IBDE) Program gain accredited web design training, self-employment related skills and support, new professional and personal networks, and business experience in creating an on-line business venture.
Many Canadians with a disability are challenged in finding employment that is fulfilling, profitable and accommodating. Starting a home-based business—with a flexible schedule and low overhead—can provide the ideal opportunity for self-determination and self-sufficiency, yet many do not have the investment or training needed to pursue that option.
The IBDE Program provides participants with extensive on-line training and support, practical experience in creating a web store selling a local artisan client’s products, and a concrete opportunity to pursue self-employment. Both the entrepreneurs and the artisans are excited about the results and the potential of the initiative.
