While education can improve a population’s standard of living and economic competitiveness, the education system must be firmly rooted in the globalized reality of today’s world to fulfil its mission.
Drawing from the examples presented, avenues for innovation are proposed. The objective is to create spaces that drive knowledge and education communities, and that support agents of change. The government’s role is to create the conditions for such innovations to occur.
Education is the Quebec government’s second-largest expenditure, and it must deliver results. Yet numerous systemic obstacles currently prevent the education program and schools from adapting to today’s realities and truly meeting students’ needs.
The system has to be reinvented, and the government should pave the way by creating spaces that facilitate knowledge transfer and by supporting agents of change.
Education can improve the standard of living and economic competitiveness. In Quebec and elsewhere, schools are innovating—emphasizing inclusiveness, community involvement, teachers’ continuing education and role evolution, collaborative learning, and personalized, coordinated monitoring.
