The Help-Wanted Index fell 7.3 points in October. But while the decline is significant, it was only enough to wipe out about half of the gain recorded the previous month. Recent movements in the national Help-Wanted Index still support a positive outlook for employment in the near term.

Signal49 Research’s Help-Wanted Index is an indicator of the number of new jobs advertised online. Our empirical analysis has shown that variations in the number of jobs posted online are generally followed by similar variations in employment in the ensuing months. Thus, the index can be used to predict near-term employment trends.
