The outlook for corporate profitability in Canada weakened in June, as the leading indicator for all industries fell 0.7 per cent. The drop was the third significant decline in as many months. Of the 49 industries covered in this survey, 12 recorded a decline in June—slightly more than in the two previous months (11 in May and 9 in April). The reason why the overall index is declining even though the majority of industries are recording increases is that a large share of total profits in Canada is produced by just a few industries.
